What is an ITR Refund?

An ITR refund arises when you have paid more income tax than your actual tax liability for a particular assessment year. This can happen due to excess Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) from your salary, advance tax payments, or other tax sources. This excess amount is then refunded to your bank account linked with your PAN (Permanent Account Number), once you e-verified your ITR returns. If the refund is not received within 4-5 weeks, you can check for an intimation regarding the discrepancies in the ITR.
