Duplicate Driving Licence in Kerala
Rule 26 of Kerala Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 specifies that "if at any time a driving licence is lost or destroyed, the holder of such licence shall forthwith intimate the fact that and apply for duplicate licence in form 'DLLD' in duplicate to the Licensing Authority having jurisdiction over the area in which he has his place of residence at that time." No person can drive a motor vehicle in public areas unless he or she has a valid driving license. After losing the driving license, as per Rule 26 of Motor Vehicle Rule, 1989 the person who lost the driving licence has to apply for a duplicate driving licence. A duplicate driving license is a copy of an existing driving licence that is issued to a person in case his driving license is stolen, lost or destroyed. RTO offices all across India have the authority to issue a duplicate driving license to an individual whose original license is torn, misplaced or stolen. A duplicate driving license can be issued from the same RTO that issued the original license. In Kerala, any person can get a duplicate driving license offline and online too.Steps After Losing Driving License
If any person has lost their driving licence, they have to follow the below-mentioned steps at first to get a duplicate one.- Go to the police station that has jurisdiction over the area where the driving licence lost
- Make a complaint that driving licence has lost and got a copy of the First Information Report (FIR)
- Visit the Notary office to get an affidavit on a stamped paper. The affidavit will act as proof that the applicant has taken an oath before the concerned officer that their licence is lost. (The affidavit is below for reference)

Online Application for Duplicate Driving licence
Step 1: Access the home page of the Motor Vehicle Department of Kerala. Step 2: The applicant selects the RTO name to apply for the license Step 3: Enter the licence number in the given boxes correctly Step 4: Select the date of birth or enter in the format 'dd/mm/yyyy' Step 5: Click on the 'GO' Button Step 6: The Licence details will appear on the screen Step 7: Click Next Button Step 8: Fill up additional requirements if any asked by the computer and click apply The applicant will get an application number and can take a printout of the full set of applications. Submit the printed forms with a fee or epay receipt all other documents mentioned above to concerned RT or Sub RT Office. Once the formalities are complete, the duplicate driving license will be sent to the registered address. The applicant can quickly get a duplicate driving license offline by following the below-mentioned steps: Step 1: Visit the RTO office that issued their original driving license Step 2: Ask the RTO officials to give the form DLLD that is the application form for getting a duplicate driving license Step 3: Fill the form and attach all the supporting documents mentioned above Step 4: They will have to pay the nominal fees of Rs. 550 to process the driving license application Once the application procedure is complete, the applicant will receive a receipt which can be used till the time they do not obtain their duplicate driving license.
