Extension of Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) Validity

Businesses that are currently functioning under the MSME category can continue to use their Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) registrations. The Ministry of MSME has announced the extension of Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) validity up to 31st March 2022. This decision is made to help UAM holders to avail benefits of the provisions under various existing schemes and incentives including Priority Sector Lending benefits of MSME. Synopsis of MSME Notification

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), vide Gazette Notification no. S.O.278E dated 19.01.2022 has issued an amendment to the original Notification number S.O. 2119 (E), dated the 26th June 2020
  • Through this notification, Ministry has provided an amendment in Para 7 which deals with the  Registration of existing enterprises.
  • MSME announced that the existing enterprises registered before 30th June 2020, shall continue to be valid only for a period up to the 31st March 2022. Previously the last day of validity was extended from 31st of March, 2021 to  December 31, 2021.

Earlier Notification - New system of Udyam Registration

As mentioned above Last year on June 26, the MSME issued a Notification number S.O. 2119 (E) changing the definition of MSMEs and introducing a new process for the registration of MSME i.e. Udyam Registration. As per this notification 2119(E), the ministry has classified the entity as Micro, Small, and Medium based on the investment in plant and machinery or equipment, and any person who intends to establish an MSME needs to file Udyam Registration online in the Udyam Registration portal. The notification also deals with the following procedures:
  • Composite criteria of investment and turnover for classification
  • Calculation of investment in plant and machinery or equipment
  • Calculation of turnover
  • Udyam MSME Registration process
  • Registration of existing enterprises
  • Updating of information and transition period in Udyam Portal
  • Facilitation and grievance redressal of enterprises
As per notification 2119(E), the existing MSME registration (Udyog Aadhaar Number (UAN) or EM would become invalid after March 31, 2021. Understand the following terms before knowing about the MSME Extension of Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum(UAM) Validity

Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM)

Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) is a single-page registration that is equivalent to the previous 11 forms protocol for self-certification of the MSMEs. UAM constitutes a self-declaration format under which the MSME will self-certify its existence, details of bank account, promoter/owner’s Aadhaar details, and other minimum information.

Udyam Registration

Any entrepreneur who intends to establish an MSME will have to file Udyam Registration online in the Udyam Registration Portal, on registration, an enterprise (Udyam) will be assigned with a Udyam Registration Number and Udyam Registration Certificate. This UAN is an identifier that can be used in applications of all MSME schemes

The validity of Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM)

As per this notification Ministry announced that “The existing enterprises registered before 30 June 2020, shall continue to be valid only for a period up to the 31st  day of March 2022”. Therefore, it is emphasized that all the existing Entrepreneurs Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) obtained until 30.06.2020 will remain valid till 31.03.2022. With this Notification, MSME announced that the validity of the MSME license, which was extended from March 2021 to December 31, 2021 (after the launch of the Udyam portal in July 2021), will be extended for some time to allow such MSMEs to migrate to the new portal and continue to receive government benefits. The present MSME registration (Udyog Aadhaar Number (UAN) or EM) would become valid till March 31, 2022.

Important Announcement for UAM Holders

As mentioned above, the existing registrations as EM Part II and UAMs will not remain valid after 31st March 2022 and it is strongly recommended that the entrepreneur need to file fresh registration in the new Udyam Registration Portal. According to the Ministry’s original Notification No. S.O. 2119 (E) dated 26.6.2020 “All enterprises registered till 31st June 2020, will be re-classified under this notification”. To make the re-classification proper and realistic, it is necessary to enter the latest details. Note: The entrepreneur should file new registration in the Udyam Registration Portal. Therefore, all enterprises with EM Part II and/or UAMs are advised to register themselves on the Udyam Registration well before 31.03.2022 in Udyam Registration.

Interested enterprises can register on https://udyamregistration.gov.in for free and without any documents. Only PAN and Aadhaar are required for registering on the Udyam portal

Updating of the existing registration detail in the Udyam portal

The existing UAM holders can edit or amend the details on the Udyam portal till 31.3.2022. The firms that have not entered the Aadhaar or PAN number so far in the Udyam portal are hereby advised to obtain” Udyam Registration Number” well before 31.3.2022.
