Mizoram Marriage Registration
The Mizoram Special Marriage (Registration) Rules, 2006 and Mizoram compulsory Registration of Marriage Rules 2007 requires the compulsory registration of marriage solemnised in the State. In Mizoram, the concerned Registrar officer will register the marriage. On registering the marriage, the marriage registration certificate will be issued. The marriage certificate is an essential document as it is legal proof of marriage between two individuals. As per the provision of the Mizoram registration of Marriage rule, the Mizoram Government has made marriage registration mandatory in the state. Marriages have to be registered for the following purposes.- To avert child marriages
- For authorising widows to claim an inheritance
- To help women to exercise their rights of maintenance from husband and custody of children
- To check bigamy or polygamy
- To serve as a disincentive to husbands deserting their wives
- Age of the groom should be 21 years and bride should have completed 18 years at the time of marriage
- Any one of the following places should fall within the jurisdiction of the Registering Officer in Mizoram
- Residence of Groom
- Residence place of the bride
- Solemnization place
Mizoram Special Marriage (Registration) Rules, 2006
With the notification of these special marriage rules, all marriages solemnised under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 have to be compulsorily registered. This type of marriage can be celebrated before the Registering officer or in any other form. Groom and Bride should have completed 21 and 18 years of age respectively at the time of solemnization. The notice of intended marriage must first be issued. If no objection to the wedding is received within 30 days from the announcement, marriage will be registered. Following documents have to be furnished for obtaining Mizoram Marriage Registration certificate.- Marriage registration application form
- Affidavit in the prescribed format
- Address Proof – Ration card, Voter ID, Driving licence Passport
- Age proof of the Groom and Bride – Birth certificate or Mark Sheet
- Address Proof – Aadhaar card, PAN Card and Voter ID
- Wedding Card (Marriage invitation letter)
- Photographs of couples
- Witness Photographs – Two witness

Register Marriage under Mizoram Registration of Marriage Rules 2007
Guidelines to register marriages under Mizoram Registration of Marriage Rules 2007 and to obtain marriage certificate is described in step by step procedure here. Step 1: Provide details in Memorandum of Marriage in the prescribed format. Step 2: Affix photograph of the bride and groom on MOM. The application (MOM) should be signed by the bride, groom and by two witnesses. Step 3: Submit the Memorandum of Marriage and duplicate Memorandum to the concerned Registrar office. Note: Bride, Groom and Witness have to be physically present at the time of registration. Step 4: Once the Memorandum of Marriage is received by the Registrar, a serial number and date of receipt will be recorded on the Memorandum. Step 5: The Marriage Registrar will furnish the Marriage Certificate after registration of the factum of marriage.Special Marriage Registration Procedure
Procedure to register marriages under a particular marriage act is below:Approach Registrar Office
Step 1: Parties, who have intended for marriages, complete the application form. Submit the application form to concerned marriage registrar office. The issue of Notice for filling Objections Step 2: The Marriage Officer after receiving applications from the parties to the intended marriage will give 30 days’ notice to all concerned for the filing of objections. Note: Such notice will be posted in any conspicuous place in the locality and also in the notice board of the Registrar Office.Verification of Filled Objection
Step 3: After 30 days, if any objection is received, the Marriage Officer will make an inquiry into the following.- The manner in which the complaint is made concerning this Act
- Checking whether the intended marriage is within the degree of the prohibited relationship under the Act, or barred by any law.
Submit a written declaration
Step 4: If the Marriage Officer receives no objection within the period, parties to the intended marriage have to submit written declaration before officer about your marital status and date for solemnization of their marriage at any time.Solemnization of Marriages - Registration
Step 5: On the date fixed in accordance, the parties to the intended marriage along with their respective witnesses should appear before the Marriage Officer for solemnization. Step 6: After solemnization, affixed your signatures on the marriage certificate in the prescribed format; and at least three witnesses should authenticate such marriage certificate.Get your Marriage Certificate
Step 7: After obtaining the signatures of the witness, the Marriage Officer will authenticate the Certificate of Marriage to hand over this certificate to the parties.
