Caste certificate also known as a community certificate, is a government document to state that a person belongs to a particular caste. The caste system is an Indian conception by which people were classified based on the professions carried out by the ancestors of an individual. In order to improve the living conditions of these people, the government gives them allowances and special schemes. In this article, we look at the procedure for obtaining a Sikkim caste certificate. C system is broadly divided into Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class. People who do not belong to any of these castes come under General Category. The General category does not require a Caste Certificate.

Documents Required

Given below are the required documents to apply for a caste certificate in Sikkim:
  • Identity Proof
  • Proof of the citizenship of self or father
  • Proof of father-child relationship
  • A recommendation letter from the Panchayat, councillor or MLA.
  • Proof of application fee
  • Passport size photograph

Application Procedure

The Sikkim government has implemented an e-district project portal for the convenience of its citizens. All Sikkim citizens are eligible to apply for this certificate. Step 1: Log on to the website The applicant has to log on to the official website. Step 2: Certificate Registration The first step in applying for the certificate is the registration. The applicant has to click the option 'Here' in the portal. Step 3: Click OBC Certificate After registering, the applicant has to click on 'OBC Certificate' under Launched Services. Step 4: Click on Apply for Service By clicking on the OBC Certificate, the applicant will be directed to a new page. The applicant has to click on 'Apply for Service'. Step 5: Click the Online option. Once the Apply for service is clicked, the applicant has to choose the Online option. Step 6: Enter the Username and Password The Login portal appears. The applicant has to enter a username and password. Step 7: Submit the application Once the Username and password are given, The applicant has to mention the verification characters and click on Submit Option. Step 8: Enter the Details After submitting the form, the application form appears. The applicant has to enter the following details: Step 9: Upload photo and signature The applicant then has to upload photo and signature to the application form. Step 10: Enter Verification  The last step to complete the application procedure is to enter the verification word. Step 11: Click on Submit On completing the procedure with the appropriate details, the applicant has to click on the Submit option. The form is submitted to the concerned authority.

Verification Procedure

On submitting the application, the applicant has to download the acknowledgement slip and approach the concerned office along with the original documents and the bank receipt. The officials verify all the given details by the applicant. Once all the details are verified and, the caste certificate is issued to the applicant. The certificate once issued is valid for a lifetime.
